Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Aït Ben Haddou – Drâa Valley – Erg Lihoudi
Departure at 8:00 am from your hotel in Marrakech. You will cross the impressive landscapes of the Moroccan High Atlas via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2,260 m). Visit the Telouet kasbah, perched on the old caravan route, then discover the Ounila valley, rich in Berber villages and ocher colors. Stop at the mythical Aït Ben Haddou kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you will have lunch in a riad with a panoramic view. In the afternoon, drive south via Ouarzazate, the Drâa valley and its countless kasbahs and palm groves. Arrival in M’hamid, the last oasis before the desert, where the paved road ends. You then continue in a 4x4 into the Moroccan desert, to the dunes of Erg Lihoudi. Camel ride at sunset. Saharan dinner and magical night under the stars in a traditional bivouac.
Day 2: Erg Lihoudi Dunes – M’hamid – Erg Chegaga
Wake up in the deep calm of the desert. After breakfast, a morning walk in the dunes of Erg Lihoudi, then drive to M’hamid El Ghizlane for a visit to the Saharan village and its adobe kasbahs. Lunch in M’hamid, then departure in a 4x4 for a crossing of the Moroccan desert on 66 km of track between hamadas (rocky plateaus), regs (plains of pebbles), dunes and lost oases. At the end of the afternoon, you will reach the dunes of Erg Chegaga, the largest in southern Morocco (up to 300 m high). Walk to the top to admire a panoramic sunset over Erg Chegaga. Typical dinner and second night in a bivouac, under a starry sky.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Iriqui Lake – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Marrakech
After a spectacular sunrise over the Sahara, breakfast at the camp then departure in a 4x4 through the Chegaga dunes towards the dry Iriqui Lake, a lunar space in the heart of the desert. You will then follow the mythical Paris-Dakar track to the village of Foum Zguid, where the desert meets civilization. Lunch in Taznakht, a village renowned for its handmade Berber carpets, before taking the road back to Marrakech via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass. Arrival at your hotel in Marrakech at the end of the afternoon, between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
