After a mesmerizing sunrise over Erg Lihoudi and breakfast in the heart of the desert, you will embark on an extraordinary 4-day walking trek across the vast expanses of the Sahara Desert. This unique journey will take you from M’Hamid El Ghizlane to the towering dunes of Erg Chegaga, following ancient nomadic trails far from tourist routes.
Accompanied by a passionate Saharan guide and an experienced team of camel handlers, you will walk approximately 3 hours each morning and 3 hours each afternoon, keeping the slow, soothing pace of the pack camels, which carry all equipment: tents, bedding, kitchen supplies, drinking water, and personal belongings. Two additional camels will be available for extra load or in case of fatigue.
The route crosses a variety of grandiose landscapes: mineral hamadas, stark regs, hidden small oases, sandy valleys, and golden dunes sculpted by the wind. Passing through the “whispering dunes,” particularly wild and little-known, will be one of the highlights of the trek: these isolated dunes, rarely visited, offer a profound sense of solitude in a raw, poetic setting, emblematic of the great Saharan spaces.
Each evening, a nomadic bivouac is hand-assembled in a new location. Around the fire, you will enjoy a carefully prepared hot meal, accompanied by the silence of the desert and a star-filled sky. Over the course of these four days of camel-supported trekking in the Moroccan desert, you will cover approximately 100 km, reaching, on the 6th day, the majestic Erg Chegaga dunes, some rising up to 300 meters high.
The ascent to the top of Erg Chegaga at sunset will reward you with an unforgettable panoramic view over the endless sea of sand. You will spend your final Saharan night in a comfortable and cozy bivouac, immersed in one of Morocco’s most stunning deserts.
