Departure at 8:00 AM from your accommodation in Ouarzazate. You’ll head south, crossing the lunar landscapes of the Anti-Atlas, until reaching Agdz, the gateway to the Draa Valley. You’ll follow the ancient caravan route, lined with fortified kasbahs and mud-brick villages, amidst Morocco’s largest palm grove. By late morning, you’ll arrive at the Tinfou Dunes, true outposts of the Sahara Desert. A welcome tea awaits you in a traditional bivouac, followed by a walk or camel ride around the golden dunes, a powerful moment to feel the desert’s atmosphere. The excursion continues to Zagora, famous for its “Timbuktu 52 days” sign.
On the way, stop at Tamegroute, a hub of green pottery craftsmanship. You’ll explore traditional workshops, ancient kilns, and visit the remarkable Quranic library, home to ancient manuscripts in Arabic, Berber, and Hebrew. Around 1:30 PM, you’ll enjoy lunch in a riad with a pool in Zagora, in a peaceful setting perfect for relaxation. In the afternoon, return to Ouarzazate via the Draa Valley, with a refreshing stop at the Tizgui Waterfalls, nestled among red rocks, before arriving back at your accommodation by the end of the day.
